A DAY IN KNOXVILLE...

I hope you are having one of THESE days!

This photo was taken during the rehearsal dinner of a wedding I shot in Tennessee last fall. You know you're going to have a special wedding when you have a rainbow appear the day before. ENJOY!

SIEMON FAMILY: EDINA FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

A couple days after Christmas I got to reunite with some friends that are currently living in Switzerland. I was pushing to do the family photo session in Switzerland but no dice, dang it. So, we made the best of the beautiful city of Edina. Actually, we never left the Siemon casa. It was a joy just spending time with these 2 and meeting their son for the first time. It was a joy capturing some wonderful photos of this amazing family. Have a Happy New Year!

DAY AFTER SESSION: MINNEAPOLIS FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

It was the day after Christmas and all through the town not a person was stirring except for the clown. He was all dressed in jeans, gators and two winter coats in hopes that he'd stay warm from is toes to his throat (that clown was the photographer). All bundled up to head north into town to take pictures of a family that would never once frown. They stood where they should and turned their heads with a smile as we took pictures on top of every snow pile. The Schmidt family did great, in laws and all and helped us capture great pictures instead of heading to the mall.

I really enjoyed my time with your family. Thanks for being such great sports and for meeting so early the day after Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family....

Peace,
BD

DAY TO DAY

As our Saturday morning begins around the Dodds household this weekend, I continue to see a streak of flesh racing across the living room. To my amazement, what resembled a shooting star in the Colorado landscape actually is my 3 year son running from room to room in his underwear. Shaef is SO proud to have escaped the life of diapers that he has found new meaning to FREEDOM. It is possible that in the near future that Shaef will be giving the State of the Union from behind his desk in the oval office. ONLY to be found in his underwear. If the American people are lucky, he will flex his muscles as he signs off the air.

Lots to look forward to in the coming years folks! Have a great weekend....Oh and please tell your friends not to go to the shopping malls today so my wife and I can get our Christmas shopping done in record time.

Peace,
Ben

A FEW OF MY OWN...MINNEAPOLIS PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

Yesterday morning we headed to downtown Minneapolis for brunch with Santa at theHilton Hotel. For the past 4 years we started a tradition with our family and my mother-in-law to go to "Brunch with Santa." Our Jolly Saint Nick journey started at the Oak Ridge Conference Center in Chaska. Oak Ridge is special to Shannon and I because it is the location of where we stated our vows together. It's a dreamy place for Shannon and I. Heck, we can even see our faces in the marketing material on the billboards as one of their featured weddings. Unfortunately this year, Santa's "flight got cancelled" from the North Pole. Shannon and are concerned that "He" is no longer with us. So, off to the Hilton we went. As I pulled up to the hotel, I noticed an alley way that would be perfect for a little portrait session. So, after we stuffed our faces with pancakes, eggs, hash, donuts, fruit...etc we headed across the street for a little family fun. It was freezing cold outside and my boys were troopers. I am the proudest father in the world! My boys are SO special and I'm blessed to be able to treasure these photos forever.

Shaef with just a classic look...It's not to often we catch him being serious! He's a clown most of the time

This was the first photo I took of Sutton. I'm thrilled that even as their dad, I can "direct" them during a photo session. Not to mention, he listened....

"Hey kids, I'm all business....you don't want to cross me in an alley"
BBBbbbbuuuuuuRRRRRRRR Daddy....I'm fuweezing out here....
Somebody ate to much "ham" at the brunch this morning...

What up G Family: Shakopee Family Photographer

When it rains it pours. My life with my Young Life job has been extremely busy for the past 3 months. During those busy times, I find it very challenging to pick up a camera. I have to turn certain photography jobs away due to my lack of free time. So this weekend, I had multiple family portrait sessions. The G family lives in our neighborhood and asked me to take their Christmas card photo for them. Again, we've been so blessed by this November weather that I jumped on the opportunity right away. We just walked around the neighborhood and found some fun spots to shoot. Have a great week!!

Peace,
BD

Family Portrait: Rosemount Family Photographer

Last week I got to spend some time with the "V" family. We found this old, little farm nestled back into a local neighborhood (Thanks to the "L" Family for allowing us to roam their property). The location was awesome and allowed for us to capture some wonderful memories. I had so much fun spending time with each of them. How stinking cute are these kids. S and I even had on the same shoes which was a BIG hit for both of us. Who would have guessed that we would have had such amazing weather in November. I'm hoping it sticks around for a few more weeks for some more upcoming family portraits. Thanks again for a great night. FYI: I'm not posting their Christmas card photos....so you will still be surprised if you are family and friends.

Peace,
BD

Look at those eyes....

Dad wanted to take "prom-like" photos but I stuck to my guns and I'm glad I did....they are a darn cute couple...
I feel like the boys should have something in their mouth's in this photo

This fall I got a wonderful opportunity scoot on down to Knoxville, TN to shoot my friend Ashley & Tim's wedding. What a special weekend that took place at the Maple Grove Inn on the west side of Knoxville. Ashley and Tim are an amazing couple and are surrounded by wonderful families and friends. This was a wedding weekend extravaganza for Ash and Tim's friends and family. The rain visited for most of the weekend however it decided to grab a seat during their ceremony and partake of the magnificent worship celebration. I'm beginning the process of going through A LOT of photos so stay tuned for more updates. Congratulations to you both again....you are awesome!!!

Kalie & Danny- University of Minnesota Wedding...

Click on each image to view larger....Thanks!

Yesterday was Kalie and Danny's special day. The story of how these two managed to cross paths is truly amazing. Separated by six thousand miles they were destined to meet at the University of Minnesota a few years back. Now both are aspiring Doctors as they enter their second year of medical school at the U. Their wedding day was full of family, friends, laughter and cultures! Oh yeah, and red shoes! Kalie and Danny are SO excited to spend the rest of their lives together! It was a true delight to spend yesterday with them. They were game for whatever I would throw their way (even if it meant walking around campus). This is a very special couple and those around them are blessed by their friendship. Congratulations to you both!! Slideshow coming soon, check back for more info!

Lillian Claire

My first niece came over from across the St. Croix to visit the fam. After a morning of conversation and oversized omelets we took some photos of lil' Lilly. She worked the crowd as she got passed from aunt to aunt and my boys even helped entertain her by shaking toys and juggling. The true showmen that they are! Lilly did a great job during her session. Excited to get some of these blown up. Have a safe trip home!!!

This morning Shan and the boys and I had our friends from Salt Lake stop by for a little visit. You all know me to well that a little visit means a quick portrait session as well. Actually, Kirsten booked this session like 2 months ago but she knew her kiddos are SO stinking cute that I wouldn't be able to resist taking their photos. We went on the hunt for a park and some other fun spots to capture these precious faces. These are photos to treasure for a lifetime! E and K were so easy to work with despite their adjustment to the 2 hr time change. I can't wait for their next visit in 2010! Thanks again for the visit....

Independence Indeed!!! Happy 4th of July...

Sutton asking the men in uniform to pose for a photo...

Sutton asking me to politely put away the camera...he learned this from his mom, ha ha!!

The boys standing to honor and wave to our WWII Vets in the parade

This morning started off with a leftover breakfast consisting of pancakes, strawberries and bacon (the bacon was fresh Granny so don't be calling me). After we wiped our faces clean, freeing us from the stickiness that Aunt Jemima tends to leave after a morning of hot cakes we rushed out the door on our way to the 13th Annual Edina 4th of July parade. This parade is a 2 hour production and has to be the BEST parade in the Twin Cities Metro. The boys love the fire trucks, policeman, horses, clowns and of course the barrage of candy being tossed from the vehicles. Here a few photos I grabbed from our time in Edina this morning. Thank you to our troops that that lay down their lives everyday for our freedom. May we NEVER forget the men and women that have been laid to rest so that you and I can live the lives we choose for our families. Thank you!!! Enjoy your 4th and please be safe.

Peace,
Ben

Paparazzi Engagement Style...

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook (if you don't then you should) you saw that last weekend Shannon and I helped a friend/coworker of hers get engaged. I'm a SUCKER, yes a sucker for engagements. You might as well put me on a stick and lick me because I love engagement stories. A guy that takes time to create/plan a lifelong story of how he asked his beautiful girlfriend to take his hand in engagement earns huge points in the marriage handbook. If you need a copy you can order on Amazon...it's a great read! All girls want to be able to tell a story and the photos from last weekend are no different.

Sara and Nick had plans to go to a show with Shannon and myself....what Sara didn't know was that Nick would be popping the question about 1.5 hours after he and Sara "HAD" to return to Sara's house to grab the tickets to the show. Upon the return to Sara's house they were greeted by Erin, a pianist playing some beautiful "soon to be engaged" music. Nick escorted Sara to the back of the house and practiced his chivalry by pulling out Sara's chair around a table decorated to look like Spasso's restaurant. Shannon then proceeded to serve them dinner while all the mean time I was shooting photos as the surprises to continued to unfold. Nick did an awesome job planning a special engagement story for Sara. Post dinner, these two viewed a private picture slideshow followed up by strawberry cheesecake in the backyard. Before the indulged their sweet tooth into dessert, Nick swiftly moved across the table, lowered himself to one knee and after some kind words invited Sara to spend the rest of her life with him. And, I got it all on film (digital media cards actually). See guys....that's a story. This special day took lots of planning to pull off such a surprise. So dudes, if you are about to get engaged....spend some time and create a story. A story that you will be excited to share with friends and family and as you grow older you'll still remember that special day like it was yesterday. Congrats Nick and Sara

Lakes, Planes & Lots O' fun!

Sunday morning was an awesome morning runing around downtown Wayzata with E & L. We had a spectacular morning to spend some time taking pictures of these little guys. The weather has just been stinkin' awesome in these parts lately. I had a lot of fun chasing the boys around the train depot, running in a field (overflow parking lot that had a shaded area) and spending some time down by the lake. The boys did a great job letting me capture the little things that make them tick. Thanks again for a wonderful Sunday morning. Enjoy your photos!!

Cambridge + Wedding=Ostrom's Forever!

Although it was a chilly, June (is that the best way to describe the temperature Lindsay?) day, Bjork and Lindsay were surrounded by friends and family to celebrate their wedding day. When I say surrounded, I seriously mean SURROUNDED. There were SO many guests at their wedding that they could have created their own small town. The day was a tremendous day of celebrating Lindsay and Bjork coming together in marriage. Here are a few photos from their wedding. Stay tuned for more photos to be posted soon.....Congrats again to the Ostrom's on their new journey together!

B stands for Brandon

I met Brandon a couple of years ago through my involvement in Young Life. Brandon started out as a YL kid and then became a good friend of mine. Brandon is a talented musician and will someday be recording in Nashville or LA. Hey Brando...don't forget the little people when you are all big and famous. Otherwise I'll be selling your Senior Portraits to TMZ. Thanks for hanging with me the other day and great job during the session. I look forward to working with some of your friends this summer as well! Thanks again buddy!

UPDATE: Boys 2009

I love the sequence of this photo....budding, budded and "de"budded...

Friday's are awesome in SO many ways. For most of us the weekend has arrived. For me, it means I get to have lunch with my boys and spend the afternoon with them after their naps. LOVE IT!!! Today, we had a little picnic in the front yard and then I took some photos post lunch. Sutton and Shaeffer still for some reason feel the need to say, "cheese" everytime I pull out my camera. I'm really trying to break that habit because I seem to always catch them with some goffy expression.

Have a wonderful LONG weekend with your friends and family! Happy Memorial Day early!

TWEET TWEET

I'm truly beginning to wonder if I'm jumping on another bandwagon? First it was the MN Twins, then it was the "Juicy Lucy," next came Mountain Smith backpacks, then I moved to Chaco's and then for some crazy reason I now have 4 pairs of Croc's, a Facebook account and now this.....TWITTER!!!

I've always been a very vocal person and one to wear my emotions on my sleeves. But this....do you really need to know when I brushed my teeth in preparation for Shannon to read me a bedtime story? I don't believe that it is necessary nor a desire for you to follow my every move however, I do believe that "tweeting" can draw us all together. That through using these social networking sites that we can be encouraged to help each other as needs arise, that we may support each other as one stumbles and that we can rejoice with each other when praises need to be sung!

So, with that said....I'll be tweeting on a regular basis. Look me up on Twitter.

I'm on to go meet with my friend Steve this morning.....hoping the winds won't blow us away today (upto 40 mph i heard).

Peace,

K+D=Med School

Last week I had the "bestest" time running around downtown Minneapolis with my new friends Kalie & Danny. Ok, seriously....these 2 are getting married this summer and they are BOTH, yes BOTH just finishing up their first year of Medical School at the University of Minnesota. Can you imagine the conversations around their kitchen table in a few years...It will be like an entire season of Grey's Anatomy. My wife and her friend Lynn will probably want to move in with them so they don't have to Tivo their Thursday night program (Grey's, that is) any longer.
We were blessed with awesome weather to walk around the warehouse district in downtown MPLS. I just love this area to play around in and if I win the lottery someday, I will be buying a loft (my urban cabin if you will). Kalie and Danny were SO cute laughing, telling stories and just allowing me to move them from spot to spot for their e-session. Thanks again for a great night....enjoy your photos and I look forward spending your wedding day with you!

Wedding Day BLISSES & KISSES!!! / Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

It's been a little over a week now that Mr. & Mrs. MacLean said their "I DO's." Oh was it a LOVELY day! In true Minnesota fashion, the sun popped from behind the haze of winter to produce a spectacular spring day in April. Molly & Zach were SO ready to get married and are so right for each other. Both are beautiful people inside and out. To listen to what their friends had to say about each of their stunning personalities and character was truly a blessing to all. These two will redefine LOVE and bring the true meaning back to its roots. We had such a fun time taking pictures, chugging bottles of water to stay hydrated as we sweat to death, laughed way to much as we drove around town & enjoyed capturing the day together. Congratulations to you both...Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special wedding day, to be a part of your family, to be a part of your friendships and to be a part of your LOVE. Enjoy your photos!!!

ps. A HUGE shout out to Lauren S....you were a blast! Thanks for hanging with us all day...Molly, isn't there an old hymn that sings..."Oh what a friend we have in Lauren" or is it someone else???? ha ha!! LS, you ROCK my face off!!!

Welcome Lillian Claire

Last weekend Shannon, Sutton and I headed east to make a visit to our first niece & Sutton and Shaeffer's 1st cousin. Exciting times for all!!! Congratulations to my sister and brother-in-law on the birth of Lillian Claire. Lillian is just a little munchkin! Sutton loved every moment with Lillian and we would catch him sneaking into the bedroom to take a peek at his little cuz. Shaeffer stayed back with Granny. We felt he was just a little to young to fully understand and we really wanted to not impose on Lillian. We figured the fewer the Dodds crew the better!! Again, congrats to you guys!!! She is SO precious!!! Have fun staying up all night long...better you then me!

Love you guys!

A Date At The Library....ssshhhhh!!!

Yesterday I met little Miss M at the Chanhassen Library. Many of you know I'm not much of a reader which means I hardly step foot inside a library. You can only imagine my anxiety as I approached the library early in the morning. My heart was pumping and the blood was rushing through my veins. I was consumed by the thought of rows of books staring at me as I entered. I can hear the books now...."chuckle, chuckle....look at this hot shot, wearing his glasses and all. Who does he think he is? Alert, Alert....(on the loud speaker), please beware of the poser entering the library. None of us have ever seen this character before!"
As the books stared at me as I made my way to the childrens corner to take photos of Miss M, without warning my Nikon camera erupted out of my bag and in a loud, demanding voice it stated," back off book bullies. Don't make him (that's me, Ben) shoot you." WHAT!! I immediately stuffed Nikon back into my camera bag, lowered my head and proceeded back to where all the little kiddos were hanging out. Embarrassed by all of the commotion, I retreated to a corner, put down my bag and scolded my camera for the outrageous outburst and pour choice of words. After this teachable moment, little Miss M arrived and the fun began..... I hope you had a great weekend!

Minnesota Tea Party...

Last weekend I got to spend some time with Miss A. We jumped in the jumper, we jumped on our bed, we read some books but the most fun of all was when we had a Minnesota Tea Party. We had several friends join us around the table for this special time. She was so cute as she poured tea for herself and for her friends. Thanks again for letting me come hang out with you guys for a morning. Don't you just love Miss A's eyes? Have a great day!

"Proud Parent of a World Vision Sponsor"

This afternoon I was sitting at the kitchen table enjoying lunch. My boys were running around as they usually do before they prepare to take their afternoon naps. As I was thinking about the day and somewhat staring off into space my eyes were drawn to our fridge. My wife, Shannon, has done a very creative job of decorating our fridge. Being that she's a teacher she uses her creativity to cover the icebox with a monthly calendar, notes the boys receive from school and colorful letters that help remind our boys how to spell their names. I often think I might need my own letters for my name but she refuses.

As I was staring at our fridge observing the monthly calendar, my eye was drawn to something more important then anything else on the fridge. I was reminded that before Valentine's Day Nona & Papa (my parents) had sent the boys their very own $5 bill. Inside the card that held this large sum of cash was a little poem that eluded to what they could possibly spend their money on. They ran around with their bling for about 30 minutes when all of the sudden Shannon invited them to join her at the table. Shannon took the boys $5 bills and handed them each 5, $1's instead. My face was confused as to what she was doing but I soon learned of her awesomeness.....

Shannon explained to our boys the importance of sharing, of giving, of tithing to those in need. She showed the boys a picture of a little boy in Africa that our boys picked out to sponsor. His name is Michel and he is growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She continued to explain that Michel had very little and that you (our boys) have been very blessed. She finished by explaining that she would like to see each of the boys donate $1 out of their $5 to Michel. They were so excited to be able to help make a difference in Michel's life. The dollar bills serve as a reminder to our 2 & 3 year olds that it is better to give then receive. What difference can you make in somebody's life today? Thanks to Shannon teaching our boys, I've been challenged to rethink how I can help change a life.

Peace,
BD

YELLOWstone & BIG sky....

This past weekend I set a new record. A record that unfortunately requires the Guinness Book of World Records to be present (which did not happen) but a NEW record non the less. What was the record you ask. Let's play a little game to see if you are creative enough to take a stab at my amazing feat that definitely requires a little recognition, if I do say so myself. Let the games begin.....I'll give you three clues and I want you to leave your answer to what you might think my amazing accomplishment was.....To leave a guess, leave me a comment on this post in the "comment" section below. Here we go....

mini donuts
"I'm sick and tired of living in a van down by the river!"- Chris Farley
189 kilometer/hour

You might have to combine words/concepts/ideas as your work through your 8th grade problem solving skills....I can't wait to hear your ideas.....I'll let you know the answer very soon!

In other news, I spent this past weekend in Big Sky, Montana. This was a guys trip with 3 of my friends and man did we have fun! Many great memories were shared over the weekend and I was reminded of how blessed I am to be surrounded by such great men. As one might think...."oh, he went to Big Sky?" I'm sure that Ben is going to post some pictures of the mountains here on his blog....WRONG! Actually, I didn't even take a single picture of the mountains. I know, it sounds crazy!! I also straddled the boundaries of Yellowstone National Forest yet still didn't take any photos of the amazing country side. This might be a call to be hospitalized or I should quite possibly receive a fine from the Photography Police. All's I can do is apologize. I spent a short time in West Yellowstone, Montana one afternoon and did take photos of the old Motel signs around the town. Again, my apologies for not recording my adventures better but I do think these signs were really cool...what do you think???
I'm glad to be home with my family again and missed my wife and boys. I look forward to the day that we can load up the family vehicle ( I so wish we had a wood panel station wagon) and set off for Mrs. Old Faithful herself. I want my boys to see the true beauty of that area. Have a great night!!

Peace,

Cancun '09

Many apologies for not posting any photos from our family vacay to Cancun this past January. Upon my return, I was very busy developing/creating the BIG SURPRISE being unveiled early this week. I'm just now getting a chance to look at the many photos I took on our trip of Shan and the boys. We had an awesome time in Mexico and our resort was top notch. The boys still continue to chant Mexico, Mexico, Mexico....almost as if the US was being invaded and the Mexican military was coming to help my two boys cross the border illegally or something. I mean they're pretty serious about us going back there very soon. If you were a fly on the wall in our home this would be a conversation you'd be bound to hear....

CONVERSATION....
Ben/Shan: "Ok boys, get your coats and shoes on..."
Boys: "Where we going mommy Shannon, where we going daddy Ben?"
Ben/Shan: "just get your coats and shoes on and head downstairs to the car"
Boys: " Are we going to Mexico daddy Ben?"
Ben/Shan: "Mexico would be nice wouldn't it..."
Boys: "I want to go to Mexio"
Ben/Shan: "well sorry to disappoint, but we are going to the grocery store"
Shaeffer: "not go to grocery store mommy Shannon...go Mexico"

We hope that this cold weather will fade away very soon yet may our Mexican family vacation stay in our hearts forever! What a great trip!!!

Have a great weekend!

Peace,
BD

With the rag top down so my hair can blow......

This is a test

I was looking through some old family photos and wanted to post this one for all my Minnesota crew! I took this photo on a 90 degree, Florida day as the waves cautiously danced around my boys feet. I also posted this photo because I will be visiting a beach near you very soon.
It's gonna feel like the winter monkey is off my back as soon as I hop on that plane. Sniff, sniff....is that salt water I smell?

Hey, at least the sun is out today!

Peace,

Pumped Up!

The title of today's post is completely unrelated to the recent news about Roger Clemens once again denying any relationship with performance-enhancing drugs. On a much lighter side, I experienced 2 things today that rocked my world!
1. Shannon's HOMEMADE Chicken Noodle Soup
2. that Shannon had opened the BIG bag of Skittles that Santa brought for WAY BACK on Christmas Eve!

I've been sick (flu-like symptoms) since Saturday evening and my stomach's security entourage (my nose) has pushed away any foods that have attempted to entice my tumtum. The thought of eating some hearty meal makes me gag. 2 days ago, my lovely wife stopped at the supermarket to pick up some canned soup (brand to remain nameless) in hopes that 16 oz. of chicken broth, 5 chicken chunks, 33 1/2 noodles and 3 orange specks (aka: carrots) might provide some much needed nutrients into my system.

Well, I tried to slowly sip away at the broth, giving time to the "other" ingredients to dissolve in my mouth. Shannon gets an A for effort however she gets an A+ for pulling out her homemade Chicken Soup from the deep freeze yesterday. Yes, my appetite is slowly coming back but oh if I could have had Shan's soup 2 days instead of that canned stuff.

Also, this afternoon after spending some much needed time on the computer I stopped by our pantry in hopes that a treat might fall from the shelves. After doing a Spearmint Gum double take, I noticed that the hugmongous (sp) bag of Skittles had FINALLY been opened. See, I've been waiting for that bag to open since Christmas Day.... Hope you are having a great day!

Just a photo to share with you my Skittle Bliss!!! Trust me, this is better then seeing the rainbow of colors that I made in my mouth by chewing up 76 skittles at one time.

Peace,
BD

I'm a cookie, your a cookie, wouldn't you like to be a cookie too?

All of this while making and arranging cookies today....Here is some BD random thoughts that often tend to float through this brain of mine. I often wonder how I sleep at night? I just posted this over on my Facebook page (if you aren't a friend of mine over there...get on it...I'd love to add you) and thought it was worthy of sharing with all of you as well......

I'm thinking pretty deep on this but that's often where my mind has been going lately. As I was scooping the cookie dough from the bowl to place on the plate i realized that i was never able to duplicate a scoop of dough as it headed for the cookie sheet. Much similar to the way in each we were all created differently and uniquely. The "amazingness" of our Creator.
The real mental processing came about as I removed the baked cookies from the sheet to place them on a rack to cool and take shape. Some of the cookies stood firm on the rack, others just looked as if they were sitting on the cushions of a 30 yr old couch. Their shape took to the cooling rack as if they were part of the rack. How often do we become part of society? How often to we stand firm in our beliefs and not allow the cooling rack to mold us into something that we're not.
Finally, I began to place the final product (warm but cooled cookies) on a serving plate. Being that I'm a photographer and being that this might possibly be the first time I've made cookies by myself (actually my boys helped) I arranged each cookie on a serving plate in anticipation for THEIR big photo shoot. The criteria by which i used to place each individual cookie on the platter was as follows....
size
number of chocolate chips per cookie
shape of this delicious treat
and most importantly, appearance

I arranged the platter to only discover my "dislikings" for some of the cookies because of their defined differences from the rest of the platter. It was at that very moment that challenged my thinking around how I look at other odd shaped, not so perfectly formed cookies in our world. Do i dismiss them and not give them a chance to be in the photo or do I embrace them and point them front and center? How would I arrange myself on a platter? There might be certain days where I would allow others to move me to the bottom of the platter, hoping to not expose my inadequate characteristics or look, yet there are days where i stand firm and confident wanting to be front and center. How often do we hide behind the strong, how often do we allow ourselves to be controlled by the controllers, how often do we allow our negative self inflicted emotions to nudge us to the bottom. If we are to, "love others as ourselves," how does that influence how we arrange a plate of cookies. More importantly, how does that encourage us how we look at our world and those that live within this world. Do you love yourself? Are you proud of who you are? Do you take joy in knowing that you are different then others? Or, do you find yourself becoming someone that others might want you to be? Do you find yourself having internal confidential conversations with yourself that find you wrestling in your identity?
Yes, random thoughts and maybe a little all over the place. Yet, all of this from making cookies today.....how do you look at life?

Sneak Peek!!! / Edina Family Photographer

TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW CLICK HERE, ENJOY!

I'm not sure if many of you know but I'm an IOWA boy. I spent 21 years being raised on corn, beef and frozen grapes (not really an IA thing but it's true). Now that I live in Minnesota it's somewhat rare to run across another fellow Iowan. Even more rare in the land of 10k lakes is to meet someone that also attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). This morning I had a killer breakfast, had some time with my boys and what...met another proud Iowan and UNI'er. I say Bender, you say Dancer...I say Hudson, you say University (dorms and roads surrounding UNI-land). After our short time traveling down reminiscing lane we got to business and started taking some photos. Thanks K family for allowing me to share in taking some portraits of your precious little boys. Here is a sneak peek of our time together this morning. Have a great night!

Peace,

Santa DID come in '08

Sutton leaving Santa a little treat on the back of his suit

Shaeffer chanting "BIG ONE, BIG ONE" in his little 2 yr old voice....Precious!

I'm a tad behind on posting the recap of the Dodds Family Christmas. I'm aware that the suspense has probably killed a couple of you off by now. I fully understand that seeing a plate of cookies, a glass of Vitamin D milk, clementines and a couple snacks for the reindeer left you to wonder whether or not the big guy made a stop on Riverside. Well he did and the excitement was extremely hard to contain. Pictures truly don't do the "excitement" justice. Sutton & Shaeffer had a challenge catching their routine nights sleep on Christmas Eve due to the wonder around what was about to happen in their living room. Santa definitely delivered a "perma-smile" on the boys faces much to our surprise. Here are just a couple photos I grabbed while enjoying watching S&S fall deeper into magic of Mr. Claus. Oh to be a kid again!!

Peace,
BD

Merry Christmas.....

I don't know what it is like around your house tonight but there has been a flurry activity around the Dodds Pole. I'll be shocked if our boys actually get any sleep tonight. Just the pure thought of Santa stepping foot into our home late this evening or early morning depending on his flight status could in itself force all of us to sleep with one eye open tonight. We have on our special PJ's with little reindeers all over them and we set out a little "Welcome to the Dodds house" Christmas snack for the Mr. Claus. The boys even insisted that we leave some clementines for the reindeer as well......I'm telling you, the excitement is unreal!

A special Merry Christmas to all of you and your loved ones! May the Spirit not get lost amidst the wrapping paper and the empty boxes on Christmas Day. May we remember when/where the gift giving began! You are all so special to our family.....Merry Christmas!!

Peace,
BD

It's COLD outside....

I woke up this morning and it was way to cold for this time of December. Let's just say that the dog didn't get her FULL morning walk, BBBRRRrrrrrrrrr! I had an early morning meeting and thought I'd share with you 2 images that share how cold it is outside in MN today. Yes, that's "-" (aka: minus) sign in front of the 4 degrees on our car temp gauge. COLD!!! The other photo is of a Sun Dog in the sky. This ONLY happens when it's COLD outside. Have I told you how cold it is???? IT IS FREEZING!!! Sorry for the "caps" and exclamation points but it's REALLY COLD OUT!!! Stay warm!!

Around Our House....

I thought I'd let you into our house this morning by posting life on a Saturday in December. Being that we've chosen (and I'm now second guessing our choice) to live in frigid Minneeesoooota, we are stuck inside today. We are not actually confined to the home but this morning the local weather station reported a wind chill of negative 4 degrees outside.

BBBBBBbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I'm poitive that we will venture outside as the sun has recently peeked through the clouds and it is to warm up to a balmy 21 degrees. We thank God daily that we are blessed with a roof over our heads and heat blasting through the vents. Oh I could visit Naples, FL right about now!!

Here are a few shots from our living room as the boys destroyed our home by pulling out every toy they could find on the main level. Shannon and I are bundled up in our warmest of warm clothes while our boys are preparing for the Polar Bear Plunge (a frozen tundra thing you do....like cutting a hole in the ice and jumping in the water in the middle of winter). Our tree is up, we finished the platter of donuts that have been gracing their presence in our kitchen for a number of days and the boys played with their lead free toys. Life is good!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Peace,
BD

Little Maggie...

CLICK HERE TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW, ENJOY!

I ran over to Maggie's house the other morning...if I remember correctly, it was before the sun was up, ha ha. We did an early morning shoot and she did awesome. Maggie dresses super cute (thanks to her mom) and has these beautiful blue eyes. We were even able to be blessed by her little brother presence so we could take a family photo. Alex was glued to the tube and we had to do a little bribing to get him to work with us. Chocolate works every time!! Thanks again for the shoot and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Blum Family Christmas Card...../ Edina Family Photographer

CLICK HERE TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW, ENJOY!

The other day I spent some time with the Blum crew as we worked our way through a couple Edina neighborhoods for family portraits. Many of you might find one of these photos in your mailbox this winter as Christmas approaches. Then again you might just be directed to my blog to download your photo instead of having them drop a Christmas picture and a letter in the mail. We had a lot of fun and the boys did a great job of working the camera. Thanks again and I hope you had a great turkey day!

Lee Wolfe Blum...

The other day I had an opportunity to shoot a friend and aspiring author Lee Blum. We had a beautiful day to shoot but it was on the chilly side. Lee did a great job of putting on her warm face during the shoot. Thank goodness for a warm cup of coffee. Thanks again and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Dona-Awesome!!

CLICK HERE TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW, ENJOY!

Last weekend I had the chance to drive north to spend some time with the Donatelli Family. I was so encouraged to see the kids having fun, telling stories and loving their mom. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with their family as we walked through the nature preserve alongside the Mississippi River bottoms (I think). They scared me a little bit when the mentioned that, "they didn't think that it was bow hunting day...that was yesterday, I think." I must admit I was a tad scared to start walking through the woods. I sure as heck was not going to hop through the woods acting like I was a deer (as I usually do when taking long walks in the park). Again, we had a great time and keep lovin' on your mom like you guys are doing...Have a great weekend!

Just Gimme The Light....

I don't really know what to say BUT...Thank You! Congratulations to Nick & Sara on the beginning of their new life together. Thank you for allowing me to take some photos on your wedding day. What a special day it was for you guys to be surrounded by so many family & friends that love and adore you both. And what's not to love and adore. You are both very warm, kind, thoughtful, joy-filled and your love is as contagious as the flu. What an amazing wedding day you were blessed with. Although the morning started off a tad blustery and almost post fall-like, the day turned into a gorgeous day to begin your new journey together. So, lift your glass of _____________ (water, champagne, apple juice, milk, beer, lemonade..etc) to Nick & Sara as they begin to explore love, life and laughter on their new beginning together.
I'd also like to thank our good friend Lynn B for all of her hard work, creative ideas and "task mindedness." I'd have been lost with out my wonderful Assistant Lynn. She made the day go very smooth on the photog side of things. Here are just a few photos from the weekend! Sara looks amazingly beautiful and Nick....do I dare say, striking! HA, I just said it!! Many more photos will be posted over the next few weeks as well as a slideshow of your wedding day journey.

Have a wonderful day!

Oh Sweetness...

To ENLARGE image...Click on the photo!! Enjoy!!

A few weeks ago my buddy Bjork called and asked if I could join him on this special day. See....Bjork finally got up the nerve to ask Lindsay to marry him. What a beautiful day it was in downtown St. Paul. Bjork and Lindsay spent the afternoon at the Minnesota Historic Center in downtown St. Paul. Around 4 o' clock in the afternoon B & L made it out to the patio. After an amazing set up of photos and a ring placed on canvas' Bjork ventured to one knee. And the rest is history! After the proposal, we ventured off the grounds to shoot the "Day Of" Engagement shoot. Congrats you guys!!

CLICK HERE TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW, ENJOY!

You can click on each photo to make it larger for your viewing pleasure!!! Enjoy!!!

If you live in Minnesota then you know that the weather has taken a turn for the....well let's just say it's getting cold out! However, after my shoot with Zac and Molly the other day I think the temps in MN have risen considerably. Watch out for the heat wave once we post their Wedding photos next spring. We had a great time "trespassing" and talking shop. This couple is out of this world! They have a great foundation as they embark on a life long journey together! After this shoot, I can't wait to hang with you on your wedding day!!! Rock on!!!

Nesbit Agencies....

CLICK HERE TO VIEW YOUR SLIDESHOW, ENJOY!

Last weekend as I loaded my cassette into the dash of my car, rolled down the windows and headed for the border with passport in hand (not really the border but better known as LeSeur, MN) I knew that I'd be getting into some trouble. As I rolled up to the Nesbit estate I contacted MY insurance company to make sure that I was insured heavily before hanging out with the Nesbit family. As I walked through Ross & Kathy's front door no policies were needed....I was greeted very warmly in anticipation for their family portraits. I was so encouraged to be surrounded by so many kind faces (Vic included). It was a very overcast day which presents it's own challenges but everyone was willing to partake in the photography adventure. You must admit, it was better than sitting in a studio at Olan Mills. We had our very own natural backdrops to work with and the Nesbit's did a great job jumping from location to location. Thanks again for the invite and enjoy your family photos.... Slideshow to come soon!

A Few Of My Own...Family That Is!

Yesterday we hit the apple orchard for another Dodds family Fall tradition. Family traditions are so important and create lasting memories from young to old. Traditions encourage unity, support, love, encouragement, joy, adventure...all of which are extremely important to Shannon and I as we raise our 2 little boys. So a fall trip to the orchard has become a tradition as we stride between the many rows of apple trees, taste testing each kind of apple. These are a few shots I took yesterday on our trip. As we head into fall and the opportunity to create family traditions may you be encouraged to create some of your own for your family. We'd LOVE to hear what traditions you have within your family....feel free to post a comment below and let us know how you create memories.....Happy Fall!

This morning I was scheduled to have two shoots back to back but due to the weather (cool temps) I ended having one and boy was it fun. LJ came over from the cheese state to have his photos taken with his family. We spent some time in Minneapolis and landed some great shots. LJ picked out the VW van and asked his dad for that special gift for his 16th birthday. Have a great weekend and enjoy your photos!
